Hard Mtn Dew, the new spiked soda from Mountain Dew, is petitioning to rename the town of Dew, Texas, to 'Hard Dew' as part of their Texas market launch.

In 1885, residents of an unincorporated community in Freestone County, Texas , wished to name their town after a prominent citizen named Drew. However, a misunderstanding during the application process led to the town being named Dew instead. Now, 150 years later, the small town, located about 60 miles east of Waco, is on the verge of another name-related twist. This time, the change is being proposed by Mountain Dew's newest product, Hard Mtn Dew , a spiked soda entering the Texas market.

As part of their launch strategy, Hard Mtn Dew has launched a petition on Change.org, aiming to rename the town of Dew to Hard Dew. The brand believes this rebranding would be a fitting way to celebrate their arrival in the Lone Star State.Hard Mtn Dew has pledged to transform the small town into a tourist destination if the name change is approved. They plan to erect a colossal Hard Mtn Dew can and a 'Welcome to Hard Dew, Texas' sign. Moreover, the brand intends to host a Hard Mtn Dew happy hour for residents and contribute to a community enhancement fund. According to a news release, the company stated that 'Renaming Dew, Texas, to Hard Dew, Texas, would be the ultimate way to celebrate, while also giving back to the community and creating a piece of iconic history that’s as bold as the brand itself.' As of Thursday afternoon, Hard Mtn Dew's petition had garnered 68 signatures. To formally submit the petition to the Freestone County Commissioners Court, they need to reach 10,000 signatures by February 28th. Freestone County commissioners have yet to respond to requests for comment on the proposed name change. One petition signer expressed their support, stating, 'I am willing to do this because I know they worked long and hard to make this drink more available. I am also a proud Texan, let’s make it happen y’all!
