Mount Vernon police have identified a person of interest in connection to a fatal Skagit County fire that occurred last weekend.

Police identified 49-year-old Jason M. Birman as a person of interest. Authorities believe Birman was at the residence in the time leading up to the deadly fire. They also noted that Birman’s blue 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck with Washington state registration C67636L is also unaccounted for.

Mount Vernon police also said Birman is known to frequent both Skagit and Whatcom counties and is an avid four-wheeler.Three people were found dead inside a home that caught fire in Concrete, Washington, on Aug. 9. Deputies from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported fire in a building in the 15000 block of SR WA-530 at approximately 10:24 a.m.

That Mount Vernon police investigator didn’t elaborate, but a spokesperson for the department said it would not be releasing any new information until the excavation work is done. Two neighbors said since the fire, multiple agencies have been canvassing the neighborhood.
