Motorola's surprise Razr Fold is here to challenge the iPhone Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a low price and a sudden release date.
Motorola posted on X that its upcoming Razr Fold will be available to pre-order on April 13th. Unlike its Samsung and Apple rivals, Motorola has been upfront about what users can expect from the Razr Fold ahead of its launch.
Perhaps most importantly, the phone will launch at £1,799 in the U.K., which matches the base Samsung Galaxy Z Fold price and comes inThe company debuted the new foldable at MWC and has consistently teased the phone for months. There’s even a dedicated site that breaks down the phone’s features and specifications, which features a handful of surprises.The Razr Fold will ship with at least 512GB of storage, which actually makes it cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 because Samsung’s 512GB model starts at £1,899 . The new foldable is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The main display is an 8.1-inch OLED with a 2K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, while the 6.6-inch cover screen is 1080p with a 165Hz refresh rate. There are three 50MP cameras on the back that support video capture up to 8K at 30fps. In any case, a 6000mAh battery in a foldable phone—which Motorola estimates gives the Razr Fold over 43 hours on a single charge—is a serious game-changer. For context, Samsung says its Galaxy Z Fold 7 will survive 24 hours of video playback. Motorola doesn’t say how it got to 43 hours, and that claim will have to be put under a microscope, but if it’s close to accurate, then that is tantalizing. The Razr Fold’s dimensions are also intriguing. Folded, the phone measures 9.89mm thick and 4.55mm unfolded. That’s heftier than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 but noticeably slimmer than Google’s chunky Pixel 10 Pro Fold . It sits squarely in the middle of the two phones, with the key difference being it will have a considerably larger battery than both. The early signs are positive for the Razr Fold. Motorola has previously innovated in this space by being first to have a large cover display on its Razr Flip, which Samsung later borrowed. Perhaps Motorola’s new device will lead its rivals to make similar design changes in the future, too.
