Two of the vehicles stopped were seized

Dozens of motorists have been stopped as part of an anti-speeding day of action by officers. Nottinghamshire Police responded to community concerns of speeding motorists by positioning themselves across Wollaton with speed guns.

Stopping drivers from speeding is a priority for the force in the city west area after public feedback indicated it as something officers need to manage. On Thursday, June 29, a number of officers placed themselves in areas where speeding has regularly been reported. High-visibility speed checkpoints were set up on Lambourne Drive in a 20mph zone during rush hour and then later in a 30mph zone in Wollaton Vale to deter drivers from going too fast. A total of 24 vehicles were stopped, with six of these drivers receiving warning notices for going over the limit.. The other drivers stopped were given guidance about improving their standard of driving at the roadside by officers from the city west neighbourhood policing team.

Sergeant Jordan Hinds, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our motivation for conducting these anti-speeding operations isn’t to ruin anybody’s day, we just want to improve safety on our roads. The public have told us they want us to focus on tackling speeding, so that’s why it is one of our neighbourhood policing team’s priorities and why we carry out these days of action to try and deter bad driving.

“As an example of this, we had lots of positive interactions and engagement with local residents throughout the day, with people telling us they were thankful we were there, which was obviously nice to see. We were also told to keep returning to deal with this important issue, so I’d like to reassure our communities that we will certainly continue to do this, to help keep people safe on our roads.
