Bexar County Sheriff's Office deputies investigate a pursuit with a motorcyclist that ended in a deadly crash Saturday night, May 15, 2023, at about 10 p.m. at the Loop 410 and State Highway 151 intersection.A motorcyclist died after crashing into a vehicle during a high-speed chase on the West Side with Bexar County deputies Saturday night.
The chase started about 10 p.m. when a gang unit deputy was patrolling a portion of Northwest Loop 410 heading west, Sheriff Javier Salazar said. A motorcycle sped past the deputy, who followed it for about a mile before signaling it to pull over as part of a traffic stop. "You could see on the video the motorcycle continuing to weave in and out of traffic, clearly driving pretty recklessly," the sheriff said, having reviewed dash cam footage of the incident.The motorcycle began pulling to the side but then sped off again. When the motorcyclist took the Military Drive exit, the deputy lost sight of it.
As the deputy approached the Loop 410 intersection at State Highway 151, he found the motorcyclist crashed into a black car and burst into flames. EMS was called and pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.The motorcyclist, who was in his 20s, was not identified publicly. Deputies said the man had a misdemeanor warrant for assault and was armed with a handgun. He was also a known motorcycle gang member, Salazar said.
