A blind man from Motherwell who has been given a devastating prognosis of just six months is facing eviction today, as he pleads, 'all I am asking is that I am allowed to die here'.

A terminally ill Motherwell man is pleading to spend his dying months in his family home after he was hit with an eviction order.

James was brought up in the house on Millfield Avenue before moving to a flat of his own nearby. However, he moved back in with his mum Margaret and dad Patrick - an Alzheimer's sufferer - to care for them in 2017.James soon fell ill himself, losing his sight and suffering chronic problems including neuropathy, diabetes and ulcerative colitis as well as chronic kidney failure. He has also been diagnosed with severe mental health issues.

James said he kept a tenancy with a housing association for his flat, with the intention of moving back in. However, his health issues overtook him and he was unable to do so. He claims he signed a form to transfer the tenancy of his current home but that North Lanarkshire Council has been unable to find it.
