Mother of pregnant woman who died by suicide accuses Kopanong hospital of negligence

The mother of a pregnant woman who allegedly committed suicide at Kopanong hospital says the death of her daughter could have been avoided.

Refilwe Thamae allegedly died by suicide at Kopanong Provincial Hospital in Vereeniging last weekend.The grieving mother of a 26-year-old heavily pregnant woman, who allegedly died by suicide inside a bathroom at Kopanong Provincial Hospital in Vereeniging over the weekend, has accused the facility of negligence.

Thamae said she wanted answers because the news still felt like a dream."I’m hurt that I lost my first grandchild and my daughter in such a painful manner." The mother mentioned she felt like the hospital did not tell her the whole truth regarding the events that led to her daughter’s death. Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said police have opened an inquest docked into Refilwe’s death, with investigations under way.
