There’s a major blood donation shortage in Northeast Ohio. The clock is ticking to donate. The American Red Cross Northern Ohio Region is desperate for blood and platelet donations. Mother Nature is to blame for the shortage.
CLEVELAND, Ohio -
“Since the beginning of the year, 17,000 blood and platelet donations have gone uncollected due to weather and here in Northern Ohio we’ve canceled 16 blood drives and have been unable to collect nearly 500 units,” said Peters. “We serve more than 70 hospitals here in Northern Ohio and those hospitals need blood every single day for a variety of patients whether it’s car accidents or childbirth complications, or even people with chronic diseases that need blood transfusions on a regular basis that need is ongoing,” said Peters.
