The family of a mother fatally shot in front of her 3-year-old daughter by her ex-boyfriend is speaking out, alleging that the tragedy could have been prevented if authorities had taken more decisive action against the perpetrator's history of violence. According to the victim's family, Herbert Nixon Flores, 46, had a pattern of abusive behavior, severely beating the mother, identified as Ruiz, in August of the previous year.
Flores was subsequently arrested in September for domestic abuse, but he was released on bail just days later. The family maintains that this release was a grave error, directly contributing to the horrific shooting that occurred on January 6th. The incident unfolded in Pacoima, California, and was captured on surveillance footage, which depicts the chilling act of violence. Authorities have since revealed that Flores had a lengthy criminal record, encompassing charges such as theft, illegal possession of weapons, transportation of controlled substances, and identity forgery. He was also an undocumented immigrant.
