Sister station WMTW has been in contact with a mother whose 22-year-old son was injured in the Lewiston, Maine, active shooter situation Wednesday. She tells WMTW she was in the first-floor lobby waiting area of the hospital when she learned the status of her son.

The man was shot in the liver, kidneys, spinal cord and shoulder blade.The woman told Maine's Total Coverage she was being told by surgical staff she could return to the hospital Thursday and is asking for prayers.The unnamed mother reported there were about 20 other people waiting for updates for their loved ones. The multiple shooting incidents in the city were first reported around 6:56 p.m., according to the state's public safety officer.
