Mother arrested in death of 2-month-old baby [Breaking]
The mother of a 2-month-old baby has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police discovered the dead child inside a Mission Valley East apartment on Sunday, authoritites said.
Police were called shortly after 11:30 a.m. about a possible death of an infant inside the apartment on San Diego Mission Road near Rancho Mission Road. When officers and paramedics arrived, they found an “obviously deceased” baby in the home. “The infant was suffering from trauma to her body that indicated she was the victim of a violent crime,” police Lt. Adam Sharki said in a news release.Police arrested the baby’s 35-year-old mother, Christine Mendoza. They identified the dead baby as Sophia Piper Rose Mendoza.
Investigators believe the death was a “tragic domestic-related incident where the infant’s mother killed her child for unknown reasons,” Sharki said.
