Texas polls show VP Harris has low approval ratings, but strong support from Black and young voters; could impact 2024 Senate race.

"Virtually all public opinion surveys reveal that Kamala Harris is underwater with Texas voters and that her unfavorable ratings are higher than her favorable ratings, and that pretty much hasn't changed over time," Mark P. Jones, a political science professor at Rice University, and one of the authors of that report, said.

Recent data out this month from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University's "Texas Trends" report give Harris a net-negative approval rating of minus 14 points in Texas, 15 points behind former President Donald Trump and even a marginal three points fewer than President Biden. A majority of Texas voters find her unfavorable, with 43% saying she is "very unfavorable," according to polling from the Texas Politics Project in June. Only just over a third of respondents said they found her favorable.

"I do think we now have an opportunity to tell a new, energizing persuasive story in an election where voters have been really exhausted," Lexy Garcia, project manager at Texas Rising, an advocacy group focused on enfranchising young voters of color, said.Notedly, among Latino voters, Harris has a near net-zero approval rating, according to the Texas Politics Project.
