A horrifying new event is coming to the Star Wars universe, and it could be the comics' most ambitious yet as Luke Skywalker faces a terrifying foe.
Luke Skywalker is about to face one of the scariest threats in Star Wars comics history in what could be the franchise's most ambitious event yet. The fan-favorite Jedi is no stranger to galactic-sized threats. Beginning with taking down the planet-destroying Death Star in A New Hope, Luke Skywalker has found himself facing numerous enemies that could destroy the entire galaxy.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In the upcoming event series titled Star Wars: Dark Droids by Charles Soule and Luke Ross, a new threat called the Scourge is plaguing droids across the galaxy. As their eye color shifts to a haunting purple, they become corrupted and work in tandem to reach their currently unknown goal.
Dark Droids Feels Like It's Straight Out Of A Horror Movie What's exciting about this new series is how it feels like a horror movie in the Star Wars universe. With droids becoming corrupted one-by-one in unknown ways, it's like the Star Wars series has found a way to create its own zombie apocalypse. This is perfectly showcased in the series' first issue cover by Leinil Francis Yu as Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 are surrounded by droids affected by the Scourge.
No Droid Is Safe, Not Even Luke's Friends The scariest aspect of the Scourge is that it can affect any droid in the Star Wars universe, not just those that are recognizably bad like the battle droids. In fact, one of Luke's own droids have seemingly been corrupted according to one variant cover. The Action Figure Variant by John Tyler Christopher showcases C-3PO sporting the haunting purple eyes of the Scourge.
Fans can pick up this huge new Star Wars event at their local comic store starting August 2. The first issue of the series will include numerous variants to add to fans' collections including a Scourged Variant by Rachel Stott and a Foil Variant by Giuseppe Camuncoli. This series has been a long time coming and will be helmed by legendary Star Wars writer Charles Soule as he teams up with War of the Bounty Hunters artist Luke Ross to bring it to life.
