A Cardington man is accused of robbing the same Columbus bank twice with a gun. James Scurlock, 44, was arrested by federal agents and faces federal charges.
A Cardington man is accused of two armed bank robberies in Columbus.Federal agents arrested James Travis Scurlock, 44, on Thursday. Scurlock is accused of robbing the same bank near the Polaris mall on March 6 and May 16 while carrying a firearm.
According to charging documents, Scurlock allegedly wore a black sweatshirt, jeans, white Nike shoes, black gloves, and a white camouflage mask during both incidents. The affidavit states that during the first robbery at Huntington Bank on Gemini Place, Scurlock initially inquired about opening a bank account. After being asked for identification, he allegedly pointed a handgun at the teller and demanded money, stealing approximately $13,700. In the second robbery in May, Scurlock allegedly pointed a handgun at a teller, took cash from two tellers' drawers, and ordered the tellers to the vault, where he placed more cash into his backpack. He allegedly stole approximately $27,700 during this incident. Scurlock appeared in federal court this afternoon, where his case was unsealed. Bank robbery carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years in prison, while using a firearm during a crime of violence can result in a sentence of at least five years and up to life in prison.
