The Atlantic’s David Frum described a segment about Pete Hegseth that he took part in earlier in the day.
Hegseth has abused alcohol, Frum, a former speechwriter for George W. Bush, notes that that concern also doomed George H. W. Bush’s 1989 nomination of Texas Sen. John Tower for the same post.
The columnist led off his comments by saying, “If you’re too drunk for Fox News, you’re very, very drunk indeed.”Additionally, co-host Mika Brzezinski offered an apology to Fox News later in the show.“We have differences in coverage with Fox News, and that’s a good debate that we should have often,” she continued. “But right now I just want to say there’s a lot of good people who work at Fox News who care about Pete Hegseth, and we want to leave it at that.
In his column, Frum leaves it up to viewers to make up their minds as to whether what he said was inappropriate. “But I also note that if I did misstep, well, my face was on the screen, my name was on the chyron, and anyone who took offense knows whom to blame,” he writes.
