Morgan Stanley’s share-price performance and dividends have provided a 6% annual total return since 2009. That sandwiches the bank between its four rivals, but beating Citigroup and Goldman Sachs is in itself an achievement, writes AntonyMCurrie.
Morgan Stanley on July 18 reported second-quarter earnings applicable to common shareholders of just over $2 billion, or $1.24 a share. The mean estimate of sell-side analysts was for $1.14 a share, according to data from Refinitiv.
Revenue was $10.2 billion, compared with analysts’ mean estimate of just shy of $10 billion. Annualized return on equity for the quarter was 11.2%.
