Eden Project is on the way, but it may not all be plain sailing
Green Coun Caroline Jackson, leader of the council, said: "We want people to get the same benefits and this can be difficult work. I'm concerned about the housing situation and see that as the most serious vulnerability. We are in a free market situation which does not benefit people on low incomes."However, selective landlord licensing is about to start, which is something we've asked for over four years. And we will look at planning and other issues about Airbnb or similar.
She emphasised: "This is about regeneration. Regeneration in a generation is the aim. Housing is the area of most vulnerability but skills are also important. " Conservative Coun Keith Budden asked: "Would you agree we are indebted to our [Conservative] MP, David Morris, with the £50million for Eden and bringing £300million to the area?"However, people in the public seating then interrupted and began complaining. One claimed councillors were 'liars' and wanted paper copies of the meeting agenda. They appeared to have different topics they wanted to raise. The situation was unclear.
The Mayor, Coun Joyce Pritchard, suspended the meeting for 15 minutes. She said people might be removed if they kept disrupting. Then some councillors spoke to the public and it was agreed they would send their questions or speak at the next full meeting. One man said: "Can we have a meeting the council? We have done this three times. You won't let us talk or listen to us."
