The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Fisher-Price are alerting consumers to at least 13 reported deaths between 2009 and 2021 of infants in Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rockers and Newborn-to-Toddler Rockers.
after the death of an infant in its Bright Starts Rockers, which along with Baby Einstein Rockers, “should never be used for sleep and infants should never be unsupervised or unrestrained in the Rockers.”As of June 23 of this year, infant sleep products must have a sleep surface angle of 10 degrees or less, the CPSC said.
The commission said the safest place for an infant to sleep is on a firm, flat surface in a crib, bassinet or play yard; only a fitted sheet should be used - no blankets, pillows or padding; and babies should always be placed on their backs to sleep. At the time, the CPSC said, “The infants were reportedly placed on their backs unrestrained in the product and later found on their stomachs. These incidents occurred between April 2019 and February 2020. The fatalities were a 4-month old from Missouri, a 2-month old from Nevada, a 2-month old from Michigan and an 11-week old from Colorado.”
