Five people were arrested in a multi-agency cargo theft investigation where authorities impounded more than $5 million in recovered property, the Los Angeles Police Department said Thursday. LAPD's Commercial Crimes Division Cargo Theft Task Force, along with the Los Los Angeles Port Police, the California Department of Justice Tax Recovery in the Underground Economy Program, and the California Department of Motor Vehicles Investigations Division, executed three search warrants on Feb.
18 as part of an ongoing cargo theft probe.During the searches, investigators impounded 84 stolen container chassis, 11 tractors, 25 vehicles, six all-terrain vehicles and two heavy-duty forklifts believed to be associated with fraudulent vehicle identification numbers, police said. They also recovered three handguns, multiple digital devices and $301,604 in U.S. currency.The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests are expected. Investigators arrested Jose Del Toro Sr., 43, of Corona; Maria Ramos, 42, of Corona; Malissa Del Toro, 25, of Corona; Jose Del Toro Jr., 23, of Corona; and Yairet Jimenez, 23, of Corona.
