More than 20 from Sibu who attended KL mosque event test negative for Covid-19

SIBU: A group of more than 20 people from here who attended the religious event at Seri Petaling Mosque between February and March in Kuala Lumpur have tested negative for Covid-19.

They were among 500 Sarawakians who went for the event from Feb 27 to March 1, during which a participant from Brunei was confirmed infected with the coronavirus.

Sibu Division Health Officer Dr Teh Joh Hun said the 20 plus people had undergone medical checks at Sibu Hospital and government clinics here on Thursday . "We managed to trace more than 20 of them. They have tested negative but we have directed them to do self-quarantine at their home for 15 days," he told reporters after officiating a community health awareness campaign on Friday .

Dr Teh said the 15-day quarantine was still compulsory for them as the incubation period was 14 days."These 20 plus people can be considered as Person under Investigation . Whoever is with them please come forward for screening," he said. Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian had on Thursday wrote on his Facebook page that some 235 people from the state who attended the event had either been quarantined or hospitalised for Covid-19 investigation.They are requested to come forward for screening at the nearest clinics.
