SAN DIEGO — More than 11,000 San Diego State University students will graduate this weekend. Vanessa Lytle is one of the many graduates.

At just 19 years old, Lytle said she remembers when her Mom was diagnosed with cancer; it was the moment her life changed forever. Shortly after Lytle’s Mom lost her battle with cancer, unsure of what to do next, Lytle relied on other family members and friends for support.This is also where she learned about the “Courage through Cancer Scholarship,” which she was awarded this year.Blackburn was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and has been fighting this battle ever since. She said it is important for her to reach students with similar struggles.
