More than 100 neglected dogs found following months-long animal welfare investigationMore than 100 dogs were recovered and two people were arrested following a months-long animal welfare investigation in Mesquite, Nevada.

Over 100 dogs were recovered, and two people have been arrested following a months-long animal welfare investigation in Mesquite. The investigation started after the Mesquite Police Department and Animal Control received multiple complaints regarding a home with "an excessive number of dogs.

" The owner, identified as Guistinio Laudando, was issued multiple violations and arrested on two separate occasions for those violations, according to Mesquite Police. Investigators said Laudando was eventually evicted from the home and indicated he would be leaving Nevada with the dogs. Instead, detectives said he moved into an RV on BLM land just outside city limits. On May 15, Laudando allegedly returned to Mesquite, where he was confronted by police in a Walmart parking lot.

At that time, the Mesquite Police Department recovered 77 dogs from the RV. Dog stuck between fence posts safely rescued by Hurricane Valley crews "Due to the conditions in which the animals were found, many require extensive medical attention," Mesquite Police said in a statement, adding that several dogs were pregnant and at least one had given birth to four puppies.

Following the initial recovery, detectives continued gathering evidence, leading to Laudando's arrest and the arrest of a second suspect, identified as Michelle Santos. During their arrest, detectives found an additional 33 dogs in an area near the Mesquite Regional Trailhead Park and took them into protective custody. The Mequite Police Department on Tuesday said the total number of animals recovered in the investigation was 114.

"This investigation has been ongoing for several months, and investigators received the final pieces of evidence needed to make the arrest with the appropriate charges," Mesquite Police said. Laudando and Santos were both booked on eight counts of felony animal cruelty and over 100 counts of misdemeanor animal neglect. Officials said all animals have since been taken to the Mesquite Animal Shelter, which has found itself in an "urgent financial need" to ensure animals receive medical treatment.

"We are well stocked with supplies and food," Mesquite Police said. "If you were thinking about buying something for our animals, please consider a monetary donation instead as the cost to medicate and prepare these dogs for adoptions will continue to add up.
