Attorneys representing students in a lawsuit against the Cumberland Valley School District allege widespread racism within the system. They plan to file additional lawsuits on behalf of other alleged victims.
Attorneys who recently helped two students file a lawsuit against the Cumberland Valley School District alleging racism say more lawsuits are coming. 'It's quite clear to me the school district is not listening,' said lawyer George Farneth. 'They're not taking the steps necessary to address the problem.' Farneth and attorney Nicholas Miller are representing brothers listed as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2 in a lawsuit against Cumberland Valley School District filed under two weeks ago.
The suit includes allegations of racism within the district, accusing school leaders of fostering a culture of discrimination. The filing includes one incident where a math teacher allegedly held up a picture of a monkey and compared a Black student to it. 'It's an epidemic through the entire school system,' Farneth said. 'I think we'll find in future suits, it will include other individuals as well.' Farneth said he will file another lawsuit this week on behalf of another alleged victim. After that, he expects another. 'At what point will the school district reach out to us to discuss these issues and reach a compromise on how they can address and fix the situation moving forward?' Farneth asked. The pair said their goal is for the allegations to be addressed in hopes possible changes can be made within the district
