JOHANNESBURG - The seven political parties meeting to form a coalition to oust the African National Congress agreed on a name for their alliance.Leaders of the parties met for a two-day convention at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Wednesday, where they were formulating terms of agreements for their new partnership.
The alliance has since been informally referred to as the 'moonshot pact' after it was first coined by Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen.What was previously known as the “Moonshot Pact” has now been renamed to the “Multi-Party Charter for South Africa”. ' Multi-Party Coalition Advocacy Group August 16, 2023 After the first closed-room session, leaders from the moonshot pact convention agreed on a name and a shared vision. Professor William Gumede who chaired the discussions said details of the vision would be shared at the end of the convention, once they had been formally signed by all parties."There are many other opposition parties that are outside the process. How will this core group engage with many of those parties? For now, they have got a vision it makes it easier for them to have a conversation with some of those parties outside.
