There are 40 different David Bowie songs heard on the wall-to-wall soundtrack for Brett Morgen's acclaimed music documentary Moonage Daydream.

David Bowie was known for his sweeping changes in style and the radical diversity of his songs, but the Moonage Daydream soundtrack offers a cohesive sense of who he was as a music artist. As a whole, Brett Morgen's documentary presents a kaleidoscopic impression of Bowie through its visual montage and audio samplings, the latter of which includes interview snippets and a wall-to-wall soundscape consisting of more than 40 tunes, most of them by the film's subject.

"Space Oddity" - A smidgen of this classic 1969 song by David Bowie can be heard as part of the "Ian Fish, U.K. Heir" remix. "All the Young Dudes" - Another live track, continued from "Wild-Eyed Boy from Freecloud" during the same concert featured in Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. "The Jean Genie" - While Bowie continues to talk about religion, a live version of his 1972 song "The Jean Genie," featuring Jeff Beck as a guest musician, accompanies footage from its performance during the final Ziggy Stardust show, at the Hammersmith Odeon in London — plus some outer space scenes.

"Quicksand" - This 1971 song plays over footage from the making of face casts for the David Bowie version of The Man Who Fell to Earth and clips from the BBC documentary Cracked Actor. The audio also includes interview material of Bowie talking about wanting to make films. "Aladdin Sane" - This 1973 song from Bowie's album of the same name plays over footage of the singer with an eye patch while he talks of art as therapy. There's also a montage of clips of Bowie through the years again, dancing with a mask, footage from Cracked Actor, his music video with Bing Crosby for "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy," and much more.

"Sound and Vision" - Another 1977 song, this one from Low, plays over colorful splashes and Bowie talking about his new music and finding a new language during an interview at the Hotel de L’Europe in Amsterdam the same year and then an interview from the '90s where he talks about accepting chaos. "D.J." - This track from Bowie's 1979 album Lodger plays over clips of the song's music video and footage of Bowie dabbling in other artistic endeavors including mime and drag and his work on stage in The Elephant Man. At the same time, there's audio of Bowie talking about such expanded artistic interests.

"Cygnet Committee" - This 1969 Bowie tune plays while he talks about his writing and wanting to "work well." It's accompanied by shots of his paintings and clips from his acting in the movies Just a Gigolo, The Hunger, and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence as well as parts of the "Ashes to Ashes" music video and a performance on Saturday Night Live in 1979.

"Let's Dance" - A live version of this song plays over 1983 concert footage, fan interviews, more of the "Fame '90" music video, and other clips of Bowie dancing through the years. "Ian Fish, U.K. Heir" - Another mix of this song plays as Bowie talks about his difficult years filled with success but no growth and is accompanied by the repeated visual motif of Bowie riding on escalators from Ricochet. There also seems to be a touch of "Hallo Spaceboy" mixed into this version.
