Marking an end to the hotel strike s that targeted a half-dozen San Francisco hotels over much of the last three months, the vast majority of workers at Hilton hotels in The City ratified a contract agreement Tuesday afternoon, according to the labor union Unite Here Local 2.
Terms of the agreement include preserving workers’ union health-insurance plan, which provides quality health-care for workers and their families, as well as wage increases throughout the life of the contract, new protections against understaffing and workload increases. The strikes began Sept. 22 and grew to include 2,500 hotel workers at six hotels affiliated with the Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt chains. About 1,000 workers at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco unanimously ratified a contract on Saturday, the same day in which their peers at Marriott hotels throughout San Francisco returned to work.
