The Montgomery Police Department is offering ways the community can get involved to help keep neighborhoods safe. MONTGOMERY , Ala. - Montgomery residents demand crime reduction.
While some people may think that law enforcement alone should be able to solve and prevent crimes, Montgomery police argue that it’s a joint effort with the community. “We can’t do it all. We can’t be everywhere at all times,” said Lt. Willie Stewart, head of MPD’s Community Policing Bureau. “That’s why we depend on the community to help us out.”
Stewart added the community can be involved by participating in community meetings, neighborhood watches, and joining thePeople can also be a part of the Volunteers in Police Service to help with courtesy checks for those away from their homes for longer periods.Fetzer said he gets “satisfaction in helping the police and the community” with small tasks that give officers more time to focus on more pressing matters.Copyright 2024 WSFA.
