MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A Montgomery man is recovering after being shot in the stomach while working at a business on Upper Wetumpka Road, an incident that began with an attempted theft of a vape pen. Troy DeHaven was on the job at Mac’s Tavern on Tuesday afternoon when a man entered the business and caused a disturbance, according to DeHaven’s sister, who asked not to be identified.
She said her brother noticed what was happening during a shift change and shouted at the suspect. The man then put the vape down and backed out of the store before firing three shots, one of which struck DeHaven in the stomach. DeHaven, a father of three, underwent about four hours of surgery and lost his right kidney and a large portion of his intestines, his family said. Doctors were able to save his spleen, but he suffered significant blood loss.Court records show Maull is currently out on bail in a separate case in which he is accused of shooting 36-year-old Lakendrick Robinson in the leg on Coliseum Boulevard in December 2024. A grand jury indicted Maull in August 2025, and he is scheduled for a youthful offender hearing in that case Thursday morning. Maull is now being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility in connection with the Mac’s Tavern shooting.“Just put the guns down,” she said. “I mean it’s just unnecessary. Parents, do better with your kids. Stay off the streets. You know that boy, he was 6’5 or 6’7.
