A Montgomery man who was killed in the New Year’s Day terrorist attack in New Orleans will be honored by the state of Louisiana next week. 26 year old Drew Dauphin, who graduated from Alabama Christian Academy in Montgomery and Auburn University, was among the 14 killed in the New Orleans terrorist attack. Drew went to New Orleans to attend a concert of his favorite musician, Billy Strings. Drew brought along his little brother, Matthew, for his first Billy Strings concert.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry declared a Period of Mourning to honor the victims and has designated January 8, 2025 as the day that all flags over state buildings will be flown at half staff in remembrance of Drew Dauphin. Dauphin’s family will fly on Monday to New Orleans to bring his body home and meet with President Biden.
A statement from the Dauphin family says, “It’s unbelievable. Who should have to come up with words for this? Our family is suffering more than anyone can imagine. Drew lit up every room he entered. His smile was infectious. He had the best personality. We are such a tight family, dependent on each other, friends, family, and neighbors. We cherish the 26 years that we had with him, and raising him will always be one of the greatest joys of our lives.
