Along the Alabama River in downtown Montgomery is a new experience for sight impaired children.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Along the Alabama River in downtown Montgomery is a new experience for sight impaired children. “This is what it means for community to come together,” said Alisa Beck, first vice president of the Montgomery Lions Club.

The Children’s Sensory Trail serves as a walkable connection between Riverfront Park and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park.“The trail includes opportunities for sensory learning, play and engagement with nature,” said Lions Club President James Lovejoy.funded the project. Sight conservation is a focus of the Lions Club. “It’s a shining example of their hard work and dedication, and we’re witnessing firsthand how collaboration brings about remarkable results,” said Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed. “The Children’s Sensory Trail was created to provide a unique, delightful experience, especially for sight impaired children,” Lovejoy said. The project is the newest segment of the ongoing Riverfront Greenway Trail project, a vision for a family-friendly, walkable attraction along the Alabama River. “The extension of this trail will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our local economy, fostering growth and development that benefits everyone,” said Reed.“We encourage other partnerships with organizations that have educational programs, community outdoor space for families with physical challenges to have a place to gather,” said Lovejoy.
