The Montgomery Humane Society has been under renovation since September
Weathered floors, rusted door frames and peeling paint on walls were common sights at the Montgomery Humane Society . Those problems are largely a thing of the past. “New flooring, new doors, new windows, new ceilings in the dog runs, new dog run cages, puppy cages, all painting in the cat room, at intake, so, it’s been a big haul, but, it’s really been worth it,” Lea Turbert, director of marketing and development at the Montgomery Humane Society , said.
“With all of the cleaning detergents that we use, everything was rusting,” Turbert said. “The floors, we tried to paint them several times, but they just got dingy, so it was well past due.” All of these updates are being made so animals have a clean, healthy place to stay while they wait to be adopted. “A cleaner space. Easier to take care of. All of them will have beds. All of them will have blankets. It will just be more welcoming to the public to see how well they’re taken care of,” Turbert said.“We got all of our dog cages and puppy cages delivered in a huge semi truck that we had to unload, and then all the dog cages, their sides and everything had huge plastic on it that we had to rip off each side, so that was a team effort,” she said. “It was fun, it inspired the team, so we’re ready to go and see the finished product.” All of the animals will move back into their normal spaces once the cages are finished being built. The renovations are expected to improve cleanliness, comfort and the overall adoption environment at the shelter.Alabama holds off Auburn 27-20 in Iron Bowl thriller, keeping playoff hopes aliveI-85 SB lane reopened in Macon County following multi-vehicle crash
