Booker T. Washington high school senior Jeremiah Treece has lived in Montgomery all his life. And all his life his city’s flag has paid tribute to what he sees as a symbol of hate.
A Montgomery high school student is taking action to change the city’s flag for the first time in over 70 years.) - , the flag was designed by then 33-year-old World War II veteran Robert S. Ryan in 1952, after winning a contest sponsored by the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce.
“We’re never trying to change history, you can’t change history," Treece explained. “One of the biggest things with those people is the fact they feel like their history is going to be forgotten, or we’re trying to change it. The whole point is we’re simply trying to move forward."
