A Monterey County sheriff’s deputy survived a shooting Wednesday morning, and a suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment complex in Salinas, which has led to a partial city lockdown.

A Monterey County sheriff’s deputy survived being shot multiple times Wednesday morning by a man who barricaded himself inside a Salinas residence, according to authorities.

“We’re not releasing that right now, but the media is already putting it out there,” she said. “We have an investigation going on, and the one thing we don’t want to do is put out bad information.” At 8:46 a.m., however, Nieto said, “shots were fired” and the deputy was “hit multiple times.” He was eventually transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.

Salinas Mayor Kimbley Craig said in a text message: “We are praying for our Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputy.
