The huge ocean predator was hooked on October 5 by 8-year-old Jayden Millauro, who is the youngest member of the Port Hacking Game Fishing Club in Australia.
"The adrenalin was pumping from the moment we all spotted the shark at the boat," the boy's father told the media outlet, adding:"So Jayden grabs the rod [and] we harnessed him up."
The shark catch reportedly took place at an undisclosed location about 160 k.m. south of Sydney close to an area known as Browns Mountain. The child successfully baited the 692 pound shark, then used side of the boat as leverage to keep it on the end of a 33 pound line. Images published online show the tiger shark was eventually reeled onboard."I was trying to hold myself, by pushing off the wall in the boat," Jayden told 9News., which posted a picture showing the shark hanging after being weighed."Pending World, Aust & NSW record 314kg to Port hacking smallfry Jayden," it wrote.
His father has since defended the decision to keep the shark, indicating it was too good of a catch to set free, newspaper reported yesterday."The majority of sharks that are caught are let go," Millauro said."With this one, fisheries will take samples for research, and the jaws will get moulded into in a plaque on the wall for Jayden. The rest is fish and chips."
