The first wave of monsoonal moisture this summer will flow into San Diego County late Tuesday, where it could spark scattered showers and possibly thunder and lightning into late Wednesday morning, says the National Weather Service.

“It’s not a particularly impressive surge, but it could bring change,” said Mark Moede, a weather service forecaster. “I think people will notice an increase in humidity.” Since the rainy season began on Oct. 1, San Diego International Airport has recorded 6.10 inches of precipitation, which is 3.47 inches below average. Wildland areas have become critically dry. Forecasters say the region is in aMoede said that the moist, unstable air that will arrive from the Gulf of California and Gulf of Mexico will be about 10,000 feet high, which means that the county’s mountains are most likely to get passing showers.

But the conditions might generate flashes of lightning from the desert to the sea late Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Forecasters urge people to go inside immediately if they hear thunder.The weather is not expected to disrupt the Padres home game with Arizona on Wednesday. Game time is 1:10 p.m.
