Monroe County settled a lawsuit Tuesday with an officer for the Rochester Police Department who suffered serious, life-altering injuries in the line of duty.

Rochester, N.Y. — Monroe County settled a lawsuit Tuesday with an officer for the Rochester Police Department who suffered serious, life-altering injuries in the line of duty. Officer Denny Wright was brutally attacked by Keith Williams while responding to a domestic disturbance call on Peck Street Oct. 4, 2019. Wright was stabbed in the face and eyes, leaving him blind.

In his lawsuit, Wright, who responded without backup, claimed he was not properly warned that the address of the reported disturbance had dozens of previous emergency calls, including one that resulted in a standoff with Williams. Williams was sentenced in June 2022 to 40 years in prison after a jury convicted him of attempted aggravated murder and aggravated assault. The amount and terms of Wright's settlement have not been confirmed.
