Monroe County leaders are celebrating a major milestone in efforts to close the region's digital divide.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello speaks during a press conference at Coyle's Pumpkin Ranch and Farm in Wheatfield, Monday, Nov. 8, 2025, announcing the completion of a more-than-$2.7-million project to expand broadband internet access to rural towns.
The county announced Monday the completion of a $2.7+ million project with Spectrum to expand broadband internet infrastructure to previously unserved rural areas. The investment is bringing high-speed service to parts of portions of Hamlin, Clarkson, Sweden, Parma, Riga, Wheatland, Ogden, Rush, Mendon and Penfield. It will all be funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act and contributions from Spectrum. The completion of the project also means Spectrum now provides coverage options to every corner of the county. High-speed internet is no longer a luxury — it’s a necessity for work, school, healthcare, and staying connected,” Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said in a statement. “This investment ensures that every household and business in Monroe County, no matter how rural, has access to reliable broadband service. By partnering with Spectrum to finish the job and reach the remaining unserved areas, we’re closing the digital divide and strengthening opportunities for families, students, and employers across our community.Spectrum has contacted the remaining unserved households and businesses identified in the study and completed installation of the infrastructure necessary to bring them online.A man faces charges for a string of afternoon sexual assaults in the area of St. Paul Street in downtown Rochester, according to the Rochester Police DepartmentThree people arrested after police chase ends at Greece Ridge mallPolice are investigating after a shooting victim checked themself into Strong Memorial Hospital on Sunday evening.Immigration attorneys are pushing for the release of a man who they said was detained by federal immigration authorities under false pretenses.
