Warning: Spoilers ahead for Marshals and Yellowstone.Yellowstone has become one of the biggest TV franchises, and Marshals has made sure to honor thecharacters who have faced tragedy. At the end of Yellowstone, Kayce left the ranch and chose to focus on his wife, Monica , and their son, Tate .
However, in the Yellowstone franchise, not everyone gets their happily ever after, and a major death occurred within the franchise that caused great sadness amongst fans, and that's the death of Monica Long Dutton. At the beginning of Marshals, it was revealed that Monica died from cancer caused by toxic pollution on the reservation, and her death was off-screen. In an interview with ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns, actor Mo Brings Plenty, who appeared in Yellowstone and Marshals, spoke about the shocking death of Monica and how her death is still having a lasting impact on the franchise as a whole. ScreenRant: Another thing I wanted to ask about, since you just mentioned it, was Monica's death. Obviously, one of the most heartbreaking things so far. But I'm curious, the show hasn't given us the full story yet. It's given us little bits and pieces about the mining and the poisoned water and everything like that. How much can you say that this season will start to dive into more of Monica's passing? Mo Brings Plenty: I really can't say a whole lot on that. I'm just thankful that they're keeping her legacy alive, because she was a warrior, and she made great sacrifices to protect the people, and she was also a great educator. So, to see her memory and to see that spirit still alive within the show is so important. And they're doing an amazing job keeping her going. Kayce is now setting out on his own as a single dad as he joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his knowledge as a cowboy and experience as a Navy SEAL to bring justice to Montana. Kayce has to work alongside Pete Calvin , Belle Skinner , Andrea Cruz , and Miles Kittle to protect his family and his legacy. The death of his wife plagues the season, and the reason as to why she passed away becomes a major player in Kayce's story. Yellowstone, created by Taylor Sheridan, has become a $3 billion franchise since it began in 2018. It has two prequels titled 1883 and 1923, which were also extremely successful, followed by two spin-offs focused on different members of the remaining Dutton dynasty, including Kayce Dutton in Marshals and Beth Dutton in Dutton Ranch.
