Big Brother 2's Monica Bailey lost cousin on 9/11.
Big Brother 2 houseguest Monica Bailey suffered a terrible tragedy during her time on the show, when her cousin, Tamitha Freeman, was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Monica, who at the time was a candy store manager from Bedford-Stuyvestant in Brooklyn, New York, is known for placing third on the reality competition series. During Big Brother 2, she became the first-ever Black contestant to win a Head of Household competition.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT During the Big Brother 25th anniversary special, the show aired a segment about how the Big Brother 2 houseguests were informed about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Host Julie Chen Moonves recalled how the three remaining houseguests, Monica, Nicole Nilson, and Will Kirby, had commented that there were no planes flying over the house that day. They were then informed that there had been a terrorist attack.
What Happened To Tamitha Freeman? In a 2021 WWAYTV3 article, Tamitha's aunt, Davoria Berry told her niece's story. She said that on Monday, September 10, 2001, Tamitha was preparing to leave North Carolina after visiting her family so that she could make it home in time to work at the World Trade Center the following day. Although her 8 p.m. flight out of Myrtle Beach was cancelled, Tamitha boarded an 11 p.m. flight.
Unfortunately, Tamitha never made it out of the World Trade Center. According to her father, Allen, after the plane hit the first tower, Tamitha went downstairs with her co-workers. However, she realized that she had forgotten her purse. One of her friends told her to forget it, but Tamitha, not knowing that the second tower would also be hit, went back up to her floor. Allen explained that no one had heard from her since then.
Tamitha died along with 176 other Aon Corporation employees. She was 35 years old, and was survived by her son Xavier, who was only one year old at the time. Xavier was raised by his grandparents, which was what Tamitha wanted for him. Tamitha's family, including Big Brother 2 alum Monica, will always remember her.
