One in 10 Brits have lost a friend due to arguing about money while away on holiday
Research from HyperJar, one of the UK's top-rated money-management apps, has found that one in 10 of its customers are owed £50 a month from a family member or friend, amounting to a staggering £600 a year. Their study highlights that a reluctance to have awkward conversations about money owed could not only add up over the year amidst rising prices, but also lead to falling out with your loved ones.
Further data from HyperJar found that less than a third of Brits believe that expenses are always fairly split, whilst 19 per cent believe that they spend between £20 and £75 more than everyone else on a group holiday. This means you have a single source for payments in and out and can track where money is going and who’s done what - removing any ‘ick’ associated with asking friends to pay you back, or pay their fair share. For introverts who often foot the bill, you can also send and request money from others via the app.
“About a quarter of holidays are taken in groups, so the number one tip to avoid falling out is to decide the spending vibes before you go. Is it blow-out or basic? If this isn't sorted you can end up footing the bill for someone who's broke, or going into unwanted debt as you try to keep up with the sunshine spenders.”
