The motive in the case of a missing family in Merced kidnapped earlier this week appears to be money, sheriff's officials said.
Salgado was identified as a person of interest in the case after he used a victim's ATM card at a bank in Atwater, a city north of Merced.
Investigators obtained a surveillance photo of Salgado making the bank transaction at the ATM.
