Summary As the season nears its end, stars Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski reveal how Kurt Russell elevated their Monarch: Legacy of Monsters performances. Russell stars in the Monsterverse show as Lee Shaw, one of the co-founders of the titular organization who works with Cate and Kentaro Randa and May in 2015 to learn the whereabouts of the siblings' thought-to-be-dead father and what he's currently investigating.
Elisa Lasowski : I don't know if there's a favorite moment, but the first time I worked with him was certainly memorable because he's really passionate about elevating the material that we have to be the best it can be. And he's a writer as well, so he'll come up with loads of suggestions to flesh out the scene.
Joe Tippett : Yeah, he, like, goes home and works on the stuff. Kurt lived above me while we were on location, and he doesn't just show up and , “Alright, what are we doing today?” He’s at home looking at the scripts and poring over stuff so that on the day, you're ready to go. When you have somebody like that is that way, you're like, “Well, that's how we’ve got to be, then.” He sets that tone.
The elder Russell, in particular, blends a wide range of personality types into Shaw. In addition to the witty charm he's often displayed in past roles, like the cult classics Big Trouble in Little China and Tango & Cash, Russell also brings a lot of the action hero bravado seen in the likes of Sky High and Escape from New York.
