Mon Laferte releases a twenty‑track album built from years of fragments and emotions, emphasizing songwriting over performance, and announces a major U.S. tour.
Mon Laferte , the Chilean Mexican singer songwriter known for more than twenty Latin Grammy nominations and three Grammy nods, is launching a new artistic phase with a twenty track record titled Laferte reveals that the project emerged not from a clean slate but from years of emotions fragments and ideas finally joining together.
She explains that many versions of herself live inside the album and that the material consists of notes written over many years from her thirties into her forties, a period in which a great amount of life events unfolded. Rather than following a conventional album structure she assembled the collection like a puzzle, pulling together old melodies unfinished lyrics and scattered thoughts. The result is a body of work that captures almost a decade of her personal and artistic evolution.
Everything is about the songs she says, emphasizing that while visual staging and sound design can dress a career the core of the experience remains the song itself. Laferte, now forty three, admits that the act of writing a song brings her more joy than performing it live, yet she also stresses that her voice remains her most powerful tool, describing it as both a shield and a weapon that has allowed her to stand on any corner in the world and sing.
She describes herself as an open book in her music, noting that even as she listens to older songs she can recognize the same themes she was expressing without being aware of it at the time. Music has always functioned as a means of survival for Laferte. She recounts composing the track Gigante during a period when she feared losing her voice after surgery, calling the song a lifeline that convinced her she would emerge stronger.
The connection between music and personal coping stretches back to childhood, when she would escape family conflict by singing at home while her parents fought, using the voice as a way to disconnect from turmoil. Today that emotional intensity remains but is directed with more intention.
Onstage she transforms into a character, a persona that gives her the courage to present the most intimate parts of herself, while offstage she describes a moment of clarity in which she feels like an alchemist turning everything into something new. Recent lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking and drinking have contributed to what she describes as a mentally clean state, allowing her to focus more on expressing ideas than on seeking approval.
The new era Laferte embraces is not about becoming a different person but about fully integrating all the versions of herself that have existed over the years. She speaks of feeling very creative, of caring more about saying something meaningful than being liked, and of using her voice as the central instrument in a project that reflects nearly ten years of growth.
In support of the album she will embark on an extensive North American tour beginning in late July at Boston's Boch Center Shubert Theatre and continuing through major venues including the Duke Energy Center for the Arts in St Petersburg, Hard Rock Live in Orlando, The Fillmore Detroit, Radio City Music Hall in New York and several arenas across Texas, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado and Nevada, culminating in a performance at the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas in early November. This tour promises to bring the raw honesty and emotional depth of the new record to audiences across the United States, marking a pivotal moment in Laferte's evolving career
