Ali Ahli’s 2-0 defeat to Al Riyadh on Sunday meant their stay at the top of the table was fleeting and under pressure with momentum shifting to rivals Al Hazm.Al Hazm duly reclaimed top spot in the standings with a 2-0 win over Ohod on Tuesday.
Al Hazm now have 53 points while Mosimane’s team has 52 on second but enjoying a 10-points cushion into the promotion positions which means they need a maximum of 15 points from the last eight games to move back to the Saudi Pro League. The top four teams in the Saudi first division are promoted with Al Hazm and Al Ahli – who were both relegated last season – almost guaranteed of their return along with Al Akhdoud and AL Riyadh.
Mosimane has now taken charge of 20 games at Al Ahli moving them from seventh position that he found them in when he took over in October into the promotion berths.Their next match is against Al Jabalian at the beginning of next month after the FIFA calendar week.
