Mom describes being buried under Turkey earthquake rubble with newborn for nearly 4 days
Necla Camuz found herself laying down in the pitch black, clutching her infant against her chest.A fallen wardrobe stopped a large slab of concrete from crushing the mother and baby to death.Camuz said her son slept most of the time that they were buried.Advertisement
She grabbed small bits of the crushed building and used it to bang the wardrobe when she didn’t hear anything back.Newborn Yagiz’s name means “brave one.”In the complete dark and unable to move much, she had no idea what time it was or how many hours passed. “You plan lots of things when you have a new baby, and then … all of a sudden you’re under rubble,” she said.
Necla Camuz, holding her newborn Yagiz, reunited with her husband Irfan and three-year-old son Yigit Kerim after being rescued.Camuz said he slept most of the time that they were buried and would occasionally cry — at which point she would feed him until he stopped.
