Steven Moffat reveals the reason behind Ruby Sunday's appearance in the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special, emphasizing that the Doctor's choice to keep his distance doesn't signify an absolute end to their relationship.
The following article contains spoilers for Doctor Who 's 'Joy to the World.' With Millie Gibson making a surprise appearance in Doctor Who 's 2024 Christmas special, Steven Moffat and Russell T Davies break down what her cameo means in the Whoniverse. Ruby Sunday made her debut in the 2023 Christmas special as a child left abandoned on a church doorstep at Christmas hoping to discover who her true biological mother is.
Despite traveling to the age of dinosaurs, Regency England, and distant space human colonies, Ruby parted ways with Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor in Doctor Who's season 14 finale. He's got a bloody office there, for God's sake, and we just came to the conclusion that he doesn't do that. He's just not that guy. He doesn't go looking for help. He lets people get on with their lives and potters along by himself. But I thought about Ruby, and then I thought when the star is shining down at the end, she should see it too. If you look at the way it ended, their relationship didn't really end at the end of the previous episode. It doesn't end as a relationship at all. Sometimes, like in The Angels Take Manhattan, that's the end for him, Amy Pond, and Ror
