, a Brooklyn-based sustainable stylist and model working in fashion and commercial advertising, had never set up lighting or styled herself for a photoshoot — but all of this changed when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. As social distancing becomes the new normal, it’s impossible for photographers, stylists, makeup artists, and models to gather and conduct photoshoots in person.
Before a virtual shoot, I’m usually sent some sort of set-up with a tripod, lights, and a background for the set. Then, I get connected to the creative director of the shoot on video, and they help me set up the equipment and give me any other creative direction. I also meet the stylist and makeup artist over video chat and they’ll help me with my look.
