The preservation and relocation of Conrad Albrizio's 'Mardi Gras' and 'Circus' murals are underway as part of the Mobile Civic Center's demolition and the construction of a new entertainment arena.
As the Mobile Civic Center demolition enters its final stages, a team is diligently working to preserve Conrad Albrizio 's magnificent mosaic masterpieces, ' Mardi Gras ' and ' Circus '. These massive murals will be incorporated into the new entertainment arena, serving as a prominent welcome feature and a testament to Mobile 's rich history and renowned Carnival traditions. The relocation of these artworks is a complex undertaking due to their immense size and weight.
Each mural stands 16 feet tall, spans 45 feet wide, and is estimated to weigh a staggering 58 tons. To ensure their safe and successful transfer, the project relies on the expertise of ICC Commonwealth, a nationally recognized leader in historic preservation with a proven track record in relocating large, historically significant structures.The first mural, 'Mardi Gras', was successfully moved into the former Expo Hall today.
