Mobile mayor says there were issues with police chief ’s leadership from the beginning This week, Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine was placed on administrative leave after a review of officer-involved incidents and what the mayor's office says was a communications breakdown between Prine and the intelligence unit. Prine says he intends to retire.
Instead, that separation soured as Prine publicly accused the Stimpson administration of being unethical and Stimpson accused Prine of authoritarian leadership style. Stimpson says complaints about Prine began soon after he was appointed as chief two and a half years ago, and he says the city took many steps to help Prine succeed.
All of that was not cheap. We've requested the contract with Dan Lumpkin to see how much the city spent for management consulting. Records show the contract with PM Group was for $194,000 and approved by the city council last November. The agreement for strategic communications provided training for the chief and officers.
