After hearing hours of testimony Thursday from a clinical psychologist that Curtis James Woods was suffering from delusions when he stabbed his 22-month-old daughter, a judge found him not guilty by reason of insanity.
) - Police arrested Woods in December 2020 at Edgewood Villas Apartments after finding the little girl bleeding from a stab wound to the stomach. She survived.
Woods avoided a criminal conviction, but he is not going free. Mobile County Circuit Judge Brandy Hambright sent him to the Taylor Hardin Security Medical Facility in Tuscaloosa. A judge at some point could determine whether he should be released if doctors determine he no longer is a danger to the public.
Added Carney: “He was quite impaired. He even said he couldn’t remember much or anything about the incident.”
